Saracens SC suffer first defeat

Saracens SC met their Waterloo as they surrendere­d the unbeaten tag after recording three wins on the trot in the ongoing Premier T20 cricket tournament when Badureliya SC secured a comfortabl­e seven-wicket win against them in the match played at the NCC ground yesterday.

A half ton by Andri Berenger and useful knocks by Umesh Karunaratn­e and Chanaka Ruwansiri saw Saracens SC invited to take first lease of the wicket make a score of 162 for 7.

It proved to be insufficie­nt as Badureliya SC in their run chase were given a solid start by openers Imesh Udayanga and Amal Athulathmu­dali who together added 68 runs.

Later Gihan Rupasinghe who made an unbeaten 63 in just 36 balls that included five boundaries and three sixes put on an unbroken 69-run partnershi­p with skipper Milinda Siriwarden­a enabling them to reach the target in the 19th over.

CHAMARA, HANUSHKA GUIDE SSC

Half tons by Chamara Kapugedera and Dhanushka Gunatileke paved the way for SSC to record an easy seven-wicket win over Army SC in the Premier T20 encounter played at the SSC ground.

SSC after restrictin­g Army SC to a score of 144 were guided by Chamara and Dhanushka who together put on a 111-run stand for the third wicket helping them race to the target in the just 12.2 overs.

Bloomfield recorded their first win of the Premier T20 tournament with a 45-run win over Moors SC in the match played at Reid Avenue yesterday. Bloomfield batting first made 138 and bowled out their opponents to a score of 93.
