-

Legendary Sri Lankan musician Pandit Amaradeva is presenting a musical evening titled father of Sinhala Song. In the field of contemporary Sri Lankan music he has earned the rare distinction of being admired by artistes, connoisseurs and ordinary rasikas for his dynamic influence on the creation of music of a national tradition, and for his incomparable virtuosity as well as creative genius. As a composer, con- ductor, violinist and singer, for more than half a century Pandit Amaradeva immensely enriched the musical traditions of Sri Lanka.

Under eminent classical musicians of India such as Pandit V. G. Jog, Pandit Ratnajankar and Vinayak Mukund Lele, Pandit Amaradeva sharpened his musical skills. Assimilating the various Indian classical traditions of music and the Sri Lankan folk music he created his own idiom in the field of music.

To support talented young music students to further their musical career a foundation already established by Pandit Amaradeva and one of the Scholarship winners of Amaradeva Foundation will perform along with Pandit Amaradeva in his performance at the Indian Cultural Centre.
