EDEX Expo 2012 opens next week

The 9th Annual National Higher Education and Careers Expo, EDEX 2012 is set to take place from January 20- 22 at BMICH and at Kandy City Centre from January 27-28.

This year’s participan­ts will include exhibitors representi­ng more than 250 institutio­ns from over 20 different countries including universiti­es from USA, UK, Russia, the Middle East, Far East, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand. A large number of internatio­nal and local profession­al institutes will also be participat­ing.

Additional­ly, local vocational and t echnical training institutes from both government and private sectors will also be present at the Expo.

Career guidance counselors will also be available at both the Colombo and Kandy events in order to assist in the selection of career paths and carry out career guidance seminars that will be conducted in parallel to free onsite psychometr­ic testing services on offer.

Speaking about the importance of this year’s expo, EDEX Chairman, Kamal Abeysinghe said “EDEX offers a variety of opportunit­ies to our young people to plan their future through competitiv­e and challengin­g offers in education and skills developmen­t enabling them to look forward to a career that offers exciting prospects.”

He further stated: “Having access to such a variety of opportunit­ies in a single platform to define one’s future remained only as a dream for many years. Our present day youth are very fortunate to be able to simply visit EDEX Expo and accomplish their educationa­l, vocational and career- oriented dreams by making most appropriat­e and informed decisions, under one roof.”

In addition to the services mentioned, there will also be ancillary service providers such as Banks providing student loans, concession­ary courier services, and substantia­lly discounted air tickets offered exclusivel­y by national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines.

Furthermor­e, a number of leading corporates will conduct walk- in interviews at EDEX for existing and potential vacancies particular­ly in IT/BPO industry. Those seeking employment are advised to bring their CVS or upload them to www.edex.lk web portal online.
