They think it's all over...

WELL, the league season has ended. The final league game has been played and the corresponding champions from each of the eight groups in the second FFCV (Valencia region football federation) division, have been confirmed.

But this does not mean that it's the end of the season as such, as there is the little matter of the promotion play offs to be decided.

CD Montesinos played this season in group eight of the second division. The winners from each of the eight groups have been promoted and will play in the first (Primera) FFCV division (group four), which covers the area south, from (roughly) Benidorm to Pilar de la Horadada.

But each of the secondplaced sides are now battling it out in a two-legged (home and away) final tie, with the four winning sides also being promoted.

In total, 12 sides (the eight group winners plus the four winners from the play-off round) will be geographically (more or less) placed into the four groups in the higher level.

The play-offs are, to football supporters, a bit like Marmite. Some of us hate them but others love them. Personally, as a neutral, I think they are fantastic. Big crowds, lots of tension and players giving it their all makes it an exciting experience.

However, if it is your team involved in the play-offs, it is not a pleasant experience. But that's the nature of the beast, and the truth is that as everybody knew how the system would work before the season started, nobody can moan too much.

I am just glad that my team, CD Montesinos led the season from start to finish, thereby avoiding the agony (or ecstasy) of having to navigate the two play-off matches at the end of the season.

Vamos Monte!
