Day centre association formally presented
THE FIRST association of day centres for senior citizens and people with Alzheimer’s disease in the Murcia region (Amucedi) was constituted last week.
The regional department for social policy, families and equality presented the association, which represents of a total of 24 private and public day centres from throughout Murcia.
Amucedi’s principal objective is working together to implement a new model of service that is centred on the needs of individuals.
Councillor Conchita Ruiz highlighted the initiative as ‘pioneering and very positive’, as it involves everybody joining forces and working together in the same direction so that ‘our seniors and people with Alzheimer’s can be attended to in a manner that they deserve and in a personalised way’.
This new model of attention addresses the needs of the elderly and those with Alzheimer’s, in order to improve access to dependency system services and benefits.
In this way, the region is
carrying out a strategy against unwanted loneliness, which employs innovation and new technologies to improve care for users.
The 24 member centres represent 16 social organisations that provide support for 850 people.
Amucedi intends to promote the interchange of support and experiences between its members, as well as to hold conferences and other developmental activities which contribute to better health and vitality, and which improve quality of life for the users of each centre.
Sra Ruiz described day centres as ‘spaces that give life and promote activities centred on improving the physical, cognitive and emotional development of people’.
“In the case of dependent people, this type of resource becomes a fundamental pillar for encouraging stimulation,” added the councillor.
