MURCIA city hall has approved grants to 20 of the municipality’s NGOs.

Almost €500,000 has been earmarked for the implementation of projects which cooperative (€349,623), humanitarian aid (€87,689) and education and awareness-raising (€30,000) are in nature.

The selected cooperative projects include schemes hosted by organisations such as Arquitectura Sin Fronteras España, Asociación Entrepueblos, and Asociación Murcia Acoge, amongst others

Humanitarian grants are being made to Asociación Murcia Acoge, Asociación Palliri, Fundación Juan Ciudad, Fundación Mainel, and Fundación Unicef.

The three education and awareness-raising organisations to benefit from the grants are, Azul en Acción, Manos Unidas, and Fundación Juan Ciudad.

The priorities taken into account when selecting the NGO projects to be subsidised are those whose objectives contribute to the achievement and fulfilment of sustainable development objectives (ODS), and those that promote action in areas such as education, healthcare, human rights, social participation and promotion, productiveness, infrastructure, the environment, government, women’s empowerment, gender equality, food security, educational development, and temporary hosting of children from developing countries.

Councillor for the elderly, disability and development cooperation, Paqui Pérez said: “The city of Murcia is committed to maintaining these grants that contribute to the advancement of vulnerable groups in regions and municipalities of developing countries, especially at times as hard and complicated as those we are currently living in, because the pandemic is, without doubt, affecting developing countries and the most vulnerable groups with greater virulence.”
