All in the title Changes is the name of the Biebs’ brand-new release, his first since 2015’s Purpose. The title is clearly about the 25-year-old’s life over the past year, which has included the end of his high-profile relationship with fellow singer Selena Gomez and his marriage to model Hailey Baldwin (23).

To tie in with the album’s Valentine’s Day release date, the cover art features a shirtless Bieber against a red background and to promote the album he’ll kick off his Changes Tour on 14 May in Seattle, USA.

Took a break In March last year Justin told fans he needed to step away from making music to focus on his health and family.

The singer, who started his professional career in 2009, said he realised he was emotionally unable to give “a lively, energetic, fun, light concert” during his 2017 Purpose world tour, which made him cancel it halfway through. “I’m now very focused on repairing some of the deep-rooted issues that I have, as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart,” he said on Instagram, before promising he “will come with a kick-ass album ASAP”.

Fresh sound The 17-track album has received buzz for its “futuristic R&B/pop sound” and “new vocal plateau” for the singer.

Collabs include the song Get Me with Kehlani, Intentions featuring rapper Quavo, and Friends, written with producer BloodPop.

Poo Bear, who Justin worked with on Purpose, produced the album.

Yummy hype Justin was called “desperate” for actively campaigning on social media to get his song Yummy – which he says is about his “sex-life” with Hailey – to the top of the charts.

Not only did he release six different music videos, multiple CD and vinyl singles and a videogame for the track, he also joined video-sharing social media app TikTok to promote it.

But fans felt he went too far when he shared a since-deleted tweet from a fan account describing how Beliebers could get the song to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Create a playlist with Yummy on repeat and stream it. Play at a low volume. Let it play while you sleep,” he said.

In the end the song got to No 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs.

New documentary series In conjunction with the new album he’s released a documentary series called Seasons. The 10-part YouTube series sees the star opening up about his mental health, his marriage and the making of Changes.

“He was open to talking about the music and the process of making music, and Hailey and his life in the past few years,” Seasons director and producer Michael D Ratner says. “There was nothing that was off limits.”
