Cape Girl Guides mark World Thinking Day

A beautiful day filled with loads of fun and learning activities at Wynberg Girls’ High School

-

GIRL GUIDES from across the Western Cape came together last month to celebrate World Thinking Day and the birthdays of Lord and Lady BadenPowell, the founders of Girl Guides and Scouts.

More than 200 girls (Teddies, Brownies, Guides and Rangers) were in attendance, dressed in full uniform and looking incredibly smart.

They started off the day by completing the World Thinking Day Challenge which involved various activities representing the past, present and future. Girls ended off writing down their hope for the future and placing them into a time-capsule which we will be burying at our head office and which will only be opened again in 2030, when Girl Guides celebrate their 120th anniversary.

After the fun activities we held our annual Guide Sunday service. This is the highlight of the Guiding calendar for all our members, but especially for those girls who are chosen to represent their unit by carrying in their company flags for all to see.

“This is a very proud moment for our girls and it is a great honour to be chosen to be in the colour party. To see the girls walking in, proudly holding their flag is a beautiful sight,” said Tanya Prinsloo, Communications and Marketing Chairperson for the Region. “We had around 200 girls there today, looking beautiful in their full uniform. We even had a few girls on stage dressed in uniforms from the past!”

A collection was taken which will be donated to the World Thinking

Day Fund which promotes Guiding throughout the world.

The girls also all brought loads of pre-loved children’s books, which will be donated to a needy library.

It was a beautiful day filled with fun, laughter, learning and ceremony. A big thank you must be extended to Wynberg Girls High School for the use of their premises.

Girl Guides has four branches: Teddies (aged four to seven), Brownies (aged seven to 10), Guides (aged 10 to 14) and Rangers (aged 14 to 18)! They all follow an amazing all-encompassing programme that deals with a wide range of subjects from First Aid and Safety, to hiking, boating and camping, leadership and also the environment and doing community service. Where else would you find one organisation or group that covers all of this? – Issued by the Bothasig Rangers
