In search of evil

A brand-new season of World’s Most Evil Killers starts on CBS Justice (*170) this month and the focus will be firmly on some of the most horrific murder cases.

There are different things that drive people to kill. Sometimes it’s spur of the moment anger or revenge and jealousy. Sometimes it’s money or love or greed. Sometimes, as in the case of these criminals, it’s just pure evil.

Season 5 of true-crime doccie series World’s Most Evil Killers (2017-now) gives you an in-depth look at some of the cases that shook even the most seasoned of detectives because of the inhumane actions of the perpetrators, using commentary and insight from the people who investigated the crimes.

MURDER MONSTERS

Some of the murders in this season of World’s Most Evil Killers include…

• Philip Austin hit his wife in the head with a mallet and stabbed her, then he killed the family’s two pet poodles and murdered his two children.

• Jason Marshall handcuffed and gagged Peter Fasoli after meeting on a gay dating website. After torturing him, Marshall smothered Fasoli and set his flat on fire with him inside.

• Russell Bishop was tried for the murders of two nine-year-old girls but found not guilty. Three years later, he tried to murder a seven-year-old girl.

• Billy Dunlop murdered Julie Hogg and hid her body under a bath. Despite being tried, he was acquitted but later confessed to the murder while in prison for assault. Thinking he couldn’t be tried again under UK Double Jeopardy laws, he never bargained on the victim’s mother, who fought – and succeeded – in having the law changed.

• Sabah Khan stabbed her sister Samina 68 times while her kids slept upstairs. The reason? She’d been having an affair with Samina’s husband and had found out that Samina was planning to move out of their shared home.

• Jerry Brudos, known as the Shoe Fetish Killer, murdered four women in the US in the 1960s. He was said to have murdered his victims, then mutilated their bodies. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.

• Watch World’s Most Evil Killers on CBS Justice (*170) weekdays at 19:00 from Monday 22 March.
