COMES TO TOWN
Intimate launch open to a few well-heeled denizens, media, celebrities and influencers
IT WAS an eventful weekend in and around Joburg, with music concerts and beauty festivals.
The first ever Beauty Revolution took place at the Sandton Convention Centre, and it had a pleasing turnout, with people coming to enjoy the exhibition stands, master-classes, performances and panel discussions from the likes of Pearl Thusi, Thando Hopa and Thick Leeyonce.
Nadia Nakai was part of the Candi&Co 2019 Hair Trend Report that was launched earlier in the week.
The rapper guest-edited the report, following in the footsteps of previous guest editor Boity Thulo.
The intimate launch was open to only about 30 people, including Joburg’s well-heeled denizens, media, celebrities and influencers, who enjoyed a specially designed menu and cocktails.
Nakai features as guest editor for
Candiland, and as part of the editorial team, she selected a collection of custom-made wigs that featured beaded braids and colourful wigs that are representative of her vibrant personality as a performer.
“The reason we chose these wigs for the trend report is because they are unique in their own way, but also on trend with its own twist.
“What inspires my hair choices is I try my best to be different and not do the same thing twice.
“I sit down and brainstorm what hasn’t been done, what is not necessarily the norm when it comes to hair, and then I try to do that,” Nakai said.
Candice Thurston, founder and chief executive of Candi&Co, said this year’s hair trends are quite funky, playful, bold, and really girly at the same time.
Speaking about the process, she said they worked with a reputable list of talented people in the hair and beauty industry to compile this report, “which we know will give us some sure hits our clients would love this season,” she said.
“A great hairstyle can make you feel 10 times more beautiful,” she said.
The trendsetting influencers who also feature in the Trend Report include Lulama Wolf, Tumi Mohale, Jena Dover, Danni Bowler, Crystal Kasper, Kgosi “Krayzik” Modisane and Stella Nhantumbo.
