RUANN Visser might have not walked away with any broken bones or serious injuries, but his fall at the Camps Bay High school hall did leave a knock that will take time to heal.

“Yes, I have a bit of discomfort in my left elbow and my left knee, there is some pain, but we are waiting on the scans to come back from our medical team to confirm what the situation is,” said the South African heavyweight champion who fell out of the ring in what was one of the most bizarre moments in boxing history.

The title fight with No 1 contender Tian Fick was set to take place on Reconciliation Day.

Moments before the fight, as both fighters were set to go at it, Visser did a light warm-up stretch against the ring ropes which unfortunately failed to support his big frame.

As the rope snapped, he fell out of the ring, hitting a table on the way down, which fortunately broke his fall before hitting the concrete.

“I put in so much effort and training into this fight and this is something I would not want any boxer or athlete to experience. It was extremely upsetting for myself and my family and it should not happen again,” he added.

It is still unclear whether we will see Visser and Fick follow through with what was set to be one of the biggest SA heavyweight title fights in Mzansi’s history.

Independent Media can confirm that Visser is considering legal action against those responsible.

“We are not sure what is going to happen regarding the fight yet, but my management and legal team are considering legal action.

“This is something no boxer wants to experience. It was really embarrassing and it could have ended much worse,” said Visser.

Following a moment of chaos from officials and fans, the fighters were both sent back to the locker rooms as officials tried to salvage the situation and fix the rope and rigging.

Moments later, it was confirmed by a doctor that Visser would not be able to last for 12 rounds due to concerns of a possible knee injury, and therefore the fight was called off, much to the disappointment of the fighters, fans and families attending.
