Karlien, Hougaard call it quits

FORMER glamour couple, singer Karlien van Jaarsveld and former Springbok flyhalf Derick Hougaard, quietly got divorced in the high court in Pretoria yesterday.

The pretty blonde slipped in and out of court unnoticed in spite of a media contingent outside the building for the trial of Nico Henning, accused of killing his wife Chanelle.

A month ago, Karlien announced the split on Facebook. Social media were abuzz with the news for a while.

Her lawyer David Scheepers denied rumours that a third party was responsible for the couple’s break-up.

“The split was most certainly not due to a third party’s involvement,” Scheepers said.

The summons issued by Karlien on Hougaard simply stated they had lost their mutual love for each other and neither of them wished to continue with the marriage.

Scheepers said the former couple’s first priority was to ensure the split made as little impact as possible on the wellbeing of their toddler twin boys.

“They realise the twins will require a team effort from them to ensure they receive all the love, care and attention they will need in the years to come,” Scheepers said.
