NELSON Mandela Bay side PE Stars have not thrown in the towel in their chase for league honours despite trailing ABC Motsepe League log-leaders Tornado FC by 12 points.

With as many as 10 more games before the league closes, Stars are confident of achieving their mandate this season.

This is provided the East London side experience some wobbles and lose some matches along the way.

“We have had a good run so far. We are on a six-game winning spree now,” Stars team manager Graeme Sauls said.

“We unfortunately lost two away games last year and had a couple of draws and it’s a bit too much to chase up with Tornado.

“We have not given up on our topplace finish.

“We’ll try to win the 10 remaining games and, who knows, maybe Tornado could lose a couple of games and maybe we’ll get a chance.

“Our aim is to win all 10 matches and see where that takes us. We definitely don’t want to finish lower than second place.”

Stars will be chasing a seventh consecutive win tomorrow when they host struggling Buffalo in Gelvandale (6pm).

The East London side are bottom of the log with eight points from 18 games.

“There are no easy games, this is a very competitive league,” Sauls said.

“I am sure if they [Buffalo] had a bit more luck they would have had results going their way.

“You need a little luck in this league.”

The fixtures are: Today, 6pm: Subs v Spears FC (NU2 Stadium, Motherwell) Tomorrow, 3pm: Bizana Pondo Chiefs v Sibanye (Mqeshwa Sports Fields, Bizana), Mthatha City v Matta Milan (Mthatha Stadium), Tornado v Lion City (North End Stadium, EL), Try Again v Highbury (Bhisho Stadium), Butterworth FC v Future Tiger (WSU Sports Field, Butterworth), PE Stars v FC Buffalo (Saints Field, Gelvandale), City Lads v Bees (Mt Ayliff Stadium).
