Mr Mayor, answer us

-

I AM currently a intern at the NMBM.

This letter is addressed to the one who sends out the notices of vacancies.

Thank you for making jobs available. I have two concerns. The jobs the municipality is making available are mainly [to be filled by] internal candidates, so how does the man in the street stand a chance of getting employed if it’s only internal appointments being made?

The next concern is: as an intern do I qualify for being considered for internal appointments or what?

I have applied for so many internal jobs I have lost count.

When you apply, they give you a slip with a reference number for you to make inquiries about the particular job.

I have lots of those slips dating as far back as September so I decided to phone Brister House last week to query whether those jobs had been filled.

I found out to my complete astonishment they are only starting to capture possible candidates for the vacancies – they have a huge backlog.

Vacancies are being released every second week.

So if they are still working on September applications, when will November’s vacancies be filled?

Mr Mayor, can you please answer?
