Graeme triumph over Malan

-

GRAEME College had a good weekend against Nico Malan in Grahamstown, with both the first hockey and rugby teams defeating their Humansdorp rivals.

The hockey side had a pleasing 2-0 win after Nico Malan did well to stay in the game following Graeme’s opening goal in the second minute through Seth Faltain.

The second half started in the same fashion with Libowethu Feni converting clinically.

Graeme dominated most of the possession but turnovers in midfield meant Nico Malan were always given chances to counter attack, where they looked dangerous.

In Saturday’s rugby clash, many expected a tight encounter after the teams drew 12-12 in the corresponding fixture last year.

But it was the complete opposite as Graeme dominated to record a 46-10 victory.

The home side were relentless in the first half, playing with the wind, and Nico Malan struggled to get out of their own half.

Even though Graeme did make some unforced errors early on they soon got into their running and produced some moments of brilliance to lead 27-0 at the break.

Nico Malan struck back twice early on in the second half to make it 27-10 before Graeme took control again with a further three tries.

Matthew Robertson and Phely Ngoma each crossed the tryline twice while Bukhosi Mhlambiso had a great game for Graeme, scoring 21 points.
