Get fit and trim using free gym equipment
THIS year has seen the trend of summer bodies reach an all-time high and outdoor trim gyms appearing in all corners of Nelson Mandela Bay.
Gone are the days when people could complain about not having enough money for expensive gym memberships or home equipment.
One of the first outdoor gyms that went up in 2014 was at the Raymond Mhlaba Sports Centre in Motherwell. It was installed by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation as a donation by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula.
Since 2014, several trim gyms have popped up all over the Bay in places like the beachfront in Summerstrand, in St George’s Park and in Khayelitsha in Kwanobuhle.
There are two trim gyms at Hobie Beach that have been proving popular with holidaymakers and beach-goers wanting to fit in a spot of exercise.
Equipment available at these outdoor gyms include:
Triple air walker:
Continues natural feet motion for legs, quickly progresses from slow walk to fast-paced workout.
Provides a strong cardio workout while causing no stress on your joints and knees.
Spinning bike: Push pull-up chair combo:
Upper body workout – back of arms, chest and back.
Double seats rambling/double
Combines the fun of social interaction with a great full-body workout.
Strengthens the arms, shoulders and back during workout routines.
Tai chi grind: Elliptical trainer: ski:
Provides a strong cardio workout while causing no stress on your joints and knees.
