It’s all a storm in a skaftin, says Bongani
ALL’S fair in love and Tupperware – even though this date started with a bang.
It seemed to be promising, as he even fixed her hair shortly after she arrived at his house. But it soon started disintegrating over a meal of T-Bone steaks as, according to Asanda Geleba, 36, he “kept asking me about the Tupperware that his brother gave me with leftovers inside”.
Bongani Khoza said: “I want my Tupperware. My mother bought it for me when I was in Standard 1. I want it back.”
And this is what caused social media to explode all week, following Sunday night’s Date My Family on Mzansi Magic. Instantly, internet memes were created. Date My Family sees a bachelor or bachelorette choose a potential love interest.
The person visits three families in their home to have a meal. They then choose someone for a date based on the family interaction and food served at the meeting.
Geleba, born in Mdantsane but now living in Johannesburg, took part in the show and went to Hamanskraal, a small town in northern Gauteng, where she met Khoza’s family. They had a braai and before leaving, Geleba asked for a tub or skaftin to take some food home for her TV crew.
She was given the infamous Tupperware and later met Khoza.
The memes included pictures of police officers carrying rifles with the caption “We here to collect the skaftin.” Malema was pictured in parliament saying: “When are you bringing back the Tupperware.”
But Khoza said the issue was blown out of proportion. “I don’t want any Tupperware back. It was meant to be funny. Some people take everything too seriously. “I wanted the episode to be fun.” Khoza said he had met Geleba once since the show aired.
It was still too early to tell if there would be a relationship, she said.
