The Daily Show has kept up the momentum since Trevor Noah took over as host in 2015, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Series on Sunday.

The show won the same award in 2015, under Noah’s predecessor Jon Stewart.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has hosted a number of high-profile celebrities and newsmakers. One of the next high-profile guests is former presidential-hopeful Hillary Clinton on November 1. She will appear to promote her book, What Happened, detailing her 2016 presidential campaign. She names people who played a role in allowing Donald Trump to win the presidency and describes her feelings during the run-up to the announcement of the new president, as well as her great sense of loss at the defeat.

Sunday’s interview revealed that she is still uncomfortable with what happened in the election and she admits to being unprepared for the conditions in the US that led to Trump’s victory.

“The forces that were at work in 2016 were unlike anything that I’ve ever seen,” she said. “It was a perfect storm.”

She acknowledged that Trump was expert at tapping into the anger of the electorate in the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008. While he was “referencing a nostalgia that would give hope, comfort (and) settle grievances” for millions of Americans, Clinton was seeking to offer answers.

“A lot of people didn’t want to hear my plans. They wanted me to share their anger. And I should’ve done a better job of demonstrating I get it,” she said.

“The most important of the mistakes I made was using personal e-mail [when she was America’s top diplomat],” she told CBS.

Clinton also recalls her distress on election night and how giving her concession speech felt like “an out-of-body experience”. “I just felt this enormous letdown, just kind of loss of feeling and direction and sadness.”
