WITS FORWARD ON A GOLDEN RUN AS TEAM FALTERS

and National First Division without ever being able to bed down a regular starting place.

He scored nine goals for Baroka FC last season and has eight in total in the league in this campaign, making him among the league’s more prolific forwards since the start of the 2017-18 season.

“It’s important for me to score. It’s going to build my confidence to go to another level as a player and I’m very happy for the opportunity that Wits has given me,” he added.

Motupa looked set to play for Chippa United this season, having moved to the Chilli Boyz from Baroka in July, but within weeks was sold again to Wits without kicking a ball for the Port Elizabeth-based side.

The 24-year-old had been in a second spell at Baroka, having been a leading star for them in their promotion through the South African football pyramid from the ABC Motsepe League to the Premiership in just a few seasons.

That sparked a transfer to Orlando Pirates in 2015, but he made just 11 starts in two seasons and scored only twice in what was a disappointing spell before a return to Baroka reignited his career.

Motupa is also a full Bafana Bafana international with a healthy return of five goals in 10 caps, though he has mostly been used in the shadow squad that features in the COSAFA Cup and African Nations Championship qualifiers.

If Wits are to revive their title ambitions, their goals will likely come from Motupa, who will be in action for them on Friday night away at Bloemfontein Celtic.
