On Thursday we hosted our friends from Kenton. Their ladies proved too good and won both the games while the men tied with two each. The “oorskiets” played on “C” green and had a ball with Jackie Kriel, Don Kelly and Rob Turner going off with the spoils. Good luck to our two mixed pairs teams playing in the EP finals.

Duties: Mark – Dave Slater, Tabs – Lina Woodword, Bar Gary Everton.

Port Alfred Bowling Club

Another very busy week! We hosted a very successful annual Alan Wilson croquet tournament with players participating from all around the country. The play was of a very high standard. The tournament is gaining popularity as two of our bowling greens had to be allocated to the croquet players for the week – in addition to their own green.

Our Peter Wansell got through to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon but got knocked out in the finals on Saturday afternoon by Richard Prosser of Kelvin Grove in Cape Town who has represented SA in his day. Richard won all the competitions very comfortably in the A section. Well done, Richard.

Well done to the winners of the Radue Trips on Tuesday afternoon who were Phil Taylor, Joan Jacobs and Bill Wragg. Thank you to Radue for their sponsorship.

This last weekend was the start of the Men’s and Ladies’ Novice and Senior Singles. The seniors played at our club and the novices played at Kenton. Well played to the section winners of the Novice and Senior Singles who are: Senior Ladies – Jane Armitage and Ruth Low, Novice Ladies – L Palmer and W Eichhoff.

Section winners of the senior and novice men are still to be finalised.

Kenton Bowling Club

It was a very busy weekend of bowls at the club with Kenton hosting the first round of the Eastern Areas (EA) men’s and ladies Novice Singles Championships. With five rounds of play scheduled, two on Saturday and three on Sunday, the bowlers’ concentration and fitness levels were thoroughly tested and many of the matches proved to be lengthy and closely contested affairs decided only by a few shots.

Pride of place goes to our own Lydia Palmer who was in awesome form and carried the Kenton flag high. Competing in a very tough group, Lydia played superbly throughout the weekend to win all her matches, coming out on top of her dection and qualifying for the finals.

Congratulations are due to all the section winners, Lydia, Wendy Eichhoff from Albany, Andy Long from Grahamstown, Andrew Sterley from Albany and Lester Scriven from Kowie. All section winners now go forward to the EA Singles finals next month and we wish them all well.
