Interacters all puzzled for PAHS

Project gives fire fund R20000 boost

ROTARY Interacters from Port Alfred High School gave a big boost to the school’s fire fund last week by donating a whopping R20 000, collected from pupils, their parents and friends of the school, by selling puzzle pieces to create a completed jigsaw depicting an aerial shot of the school property.

The project began when Interact president Inga Mpepanduku went to see principal Clive Pearson and asked him how they could assist the school.

“He took me to the foyer and showed me photographs that had been virtually destroyed in the fire,” Mpepanduku said.

“One was of the school, taken from above, and the other was a photograph of the pupils of the school.

“Mr Pearson was upset because he said the photographs were special to him. He said he loved the photographs and that he would like Interact to replace them.”

Mpepanduku took the idea back to her committee, and the plan to launch the puzzle project was initiated.

Pupils were asked to sell individual puzzle pieces for R20 each.

The overwhelming response from everyone concerned meant there was not only enough money to replace the photographs but also to frame them and donate the R20 000 to the school’s fire fund.

“I love these photographs,” said Pearson, “and I am proud of all our Interacters, the school and everyone who contributed to the fund.”

The framed photographs were handed over to the school during the morning assembly at the start of the new school term on October 10.

Interact coordinator, Rotarian Mike Millard, was also proud of what his charges had managed to do.

“Thanks to Interact, the school now has two beautifully framed photographs to hang in the foyer. Everyone who contributed to the puzzle project, is also named on the borders of the puzzle as a lasting reminder of their generosity,” Millard said.
