THE RING LUNDI STOLE IS FOUND ‘ ’

- MDUDUZI DLAMINI

THE discovery of a missing ring between the cushions of a sofa led to the dismissal of a theft charge against gospel star Lundi Tyamara at Randburg Magistrates Courts this week.

’ Nomfundo Mthembu and her husband Sibongiseni, who insist that they are not friends with Lundi, who they say is a friend of their friend, laid a criminal charge of theft against the singer following the disappearance of a R30 000 ring.

Last November Lundi borrowed a jacket at a shindig held at the Mthembus house.

’ The couple, who are lawyers, lent him the jacket as he was cold and afterwards realised the ring was in one of the pockets.

When Lundi discovered the ring, he says, he called the couple to let them know that he had found a ring and would return it along with the jacket.

Then he was involved in a series of house moves, which resulted in him misplacing the ring, he tells Sunday World.

He visited our offices on Friday. I was “staying in Mulbarton, south of Joburg, at the time the ring went missing in my house and I was busy moving to a flat in Germiston,” he explains. The flat was without lights “for two weeks and that forced me to seek alternative accommodation. I then had to move again to “another flat, also in Germiston. Somewhere in all the mov“ing I misplaced the ring,” says Lundi.

I ve been looking for it and “’ when I did a thorough house cleaning, I found it in my sofa.

I took it to the lawyers since “it was now a criminal matter. I couldn t speak to them (the “’ Mthembus) directly. I then returned the ring. When the matter went to “court the case was dismissed,” says Lundi.

He reckons his biggest worry when the criminal case was laid against him was that he had just released a new album and wouldn t have been able to pro

’ mote it from prison.

The Mthembus are unwilling to talk to the media.

When called, Nomfundo said: He brought “back the ring and the case was dismissed. We re “’ private individuals and don t want

’ to discuss our matters in the media.

Please “respect our right not to talk to you. You can go “ahead and write what he tells you. ” dlaminimd@sundayworld.co.za
