Cricket bowled out by rain but victory for UKZN

-

KWAZULU-NATAL farmers have enjoyed the rainfall in the past few weeks, but the reaction from cricketers has not been so cheerful.

Heavy rains wreaked havoc across Durban last weekend, with only one game in the KZNCU Premier League enjoying a result.

UKZN made it two wins from two with a 64-run victory over Delta.

Batting first, the university outfit made a bright start thanks to KZN Under-19 man Joel Veeran, who put together a composed 43 to help set a target of 157.

Kushen Kishun and Nazeer Jaffer, who took three wickets apiece, were the stand out bowlers for Delta.

In response, the Tills Crescent team struggled and were bundled out for 92.

Two games in the Challenge division escaped the downpour.

Following relegation from the Premier League, Chatsworth United’s downward spiral has gained further momentum. They lost by 10 wickets to DHS Rhythm after being bowled out for an embarrassing score of 15.

Ryan Moses took seven wickets from four overs while Abdul Hack claimed three scalps.

Tongaat-based Railways enjoyed an 88-run win over Umzinto. Trishane Pillay, 58, and Dawood Mather, 70, saw them set a decent target of 180.

The South Coast team was bowled out for 92, with Mather adding a fivewicket haul and Trevor Pillay claiming three sticks of his own.
