Light and breezy, but not as funny as ‘Kalakalappu’
INTRODUCTION
AFTER a successful collaboration with Sundar C in Kalakalappu , Disney’s UTV Motion Pictures has reunited with the director for Theeyaa Velai Seyyanum Kumaru. Siddharth and Hansika Motwani play the lead roles, supported by Santhaanam, Ganesh Venkatraman, Devadharshini and Manobala. There are also cameo appearances by Vishal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kushbu, Delhi Ganesh and John Vijay.
STORY AS a result of some unpleasant experiences in love, Kumar (Siddharth) has an inferiority complex and an aversion to the opposite sex. But, despite himself, he falls in love with the beautiful Sanjana (Motwani). Now the only problem is finding enough courage to confess his love to her. He engages the services of a love guru, Nokia (Santhaanam). Thanks to the guru’s advice, Kumar is beginning to make headway when it is revealed that Sanjana is Nokia’s sister. The guru tries to undo the damage — with hilarious consequences.
PERFORMANCES
SIDDHARTH plays an unusual character for him: an awkward, self-conscious man whose lack of self-esteem lands him in predictable but hilarious situations. Motwani is in brilliant form, showing an energy and sparkle unseen in previous roles. The live wire of the film is, undoubtedly, Santhaanam, whose one-liners are complemented by good situational comedy. Manobala is in scintillating form, but Venkatraman fails to reach the heights of some of his earlier performances.
DIRECTION
SUNDHAR C has made a neat and entertaining comedy entertainer, extracting the best from Siddharth, Santhaanam and Motwani.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
GOPI Amarnath’s cinematography is good and especially impressive in the song sequences.
