Our constitution is our weakest spot
In township lingo we say Ndzawo sal altyd ‘ n dzawo wees. This is township parlance meaning “a sucker will always be a sucker.”
This is in reference to developments regarding the self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bashiri versus our sleepy government.
We are the ndzawos, mogoes, abobari, idiots or suckers of the world. The advent of our democracy in 1994 accelerated the arrival of some of the worst scum of the world on our shores.
All the international smart Alecs are in our country to milk us dry of our valuables.
The Guptas, drug dealers, the Bushiris, the Omotosos, the Sam Tshabalalas, the list is endless.
Our response is to pride ourselves in how beautiful our constitution is. It is the best in the world, we believe.
Our gold, our diamonds, our platinum, our land, the future of our youth, in short our precious assets are being stolen from us.
The question is, if our constitution is that good, why is the rest of the world not falling over themselves to take it for themselves like they are doing with other things precious to us? The answer is simple, they have seen its shortcomings.
The Bushiris, Guptas, drug dealers and many more that have not yet been unearthed are taking full advantage of our sleepiness.
We are still caught up in the euphoria of “winning ” our freedom from the apartheid demons.
Bushiris’ latest shenanigans only help to further expose some of the weaknesses in our constitution.
As a living document, our constitution needs to be constantly nurtured and amended to conform to our needs.
