Kaizer jnr tipped for top post at Chiefs
Ex-striker plays down future role as Naturena boss
For someone whose name means “Emperor” in German, it seems fitting that the belief that Kaizer Motaung jnr is next in line to take over the running of Kaizer Chiefs is growing.
Earlier this week the club confirmed that Motaung had completed his financial management degree with Varsity College.
This announcement has heightened speculation that Motaung is almost ready to be the next “kaizer” at the club. But Motaung yesterday downplayed the suggestions that he was being groomed to take over the running of the club from his 74-year-old father Kaizer Motaung snr. “It’s just an honour to be here [at the club] and right now I just want to be a sponge to learn. I am very privileged to learn from everybody here,” Motaung said.
“I’ve finished my studies and at the moment it’s about applying those studies. “The ones [courses] I embarked on are on the business and financial side, so there are many elements which can be applied in different areas of the institu tion.”
Kaizer jnr does not have an official role at the club but has been working alongside his siblings Bobby (football manager), Jessica (marketing director) and Kemiso (digital manager).
With his newly acquired qualification, the 37-year-old former striker said he wanted to add value to the club. “Education is about the individual. So you can be from [US president Donald] Trump’s family but he will not help you get a degree. I wanted to have a skill and understand.
“It was something that I always wanted to do and in 2014 I took the decision to go at it full time and focus on it. Irrespective of the background, I wanted to arm myself.” With Amakhosi preparing to take on arch-foes Orlando Pirates on Saturday, Motaung expects a positive result from his team.
“A Chiefs win is most im-
‘ ‘ Irrespective of background, I wanted to arm myself
portant. Every win for Chiefs is important and that’s the goal,” he said.
