Mary O’ Reilly, Hewitson are Without Limits
Coal a worthy BiPot banker
It has been a rather slow start for champion jockey Lyle Hewitson since returning from an injury-enforced layoff, however, this should all change at Fairview today when he has a number of top-class rides.
Top of the list should be Mary O’ Reilly, who demolished opposition on debut, justifying 9-10 favouritism by a mammoth 5.25 lengths on the turf over 1000m. Most impressive was the fact jockey Ryan Munger didn’t use his crop.
“She is absolutely brilliant,” said trainer Yvette Bremner. “She’s a nice ride, you can do absolutely anything with her. Her pace work is brilliant – obviously the 1000m is a bit sharp for her. We’ve got a lot to look forward to.”
On that performance this daughter of Sail From Seattle looks very hard to oppose when she lines up in Race 7, a FM 72 Handicap over 1300m on the Polytrack, despite the fact she meets a tougher field.
The 67-day stint off the racetrack may have done her the world of good. However, she will have to contend with a wide No 9 draw in this 10-horse field – the only real chink in her armour, considering this is the three-year-old’s first time around the bend.
That last form line has produced a winner which does strengthen her case. Alan Greeff-trained Hashtagselfie is ultra-consistent and was in desperate need of a run when finishing a commendable fifth over 1600m at this track following a two-month layoff.
The pair are all you need in your Pick 6. For the Quartet, float them with Love Dove, Firstimesacharm, Damaraland, Light As A Feather and Let’s Twist.
Justin Snaith is currently 13 winners clear of Sean Tarry on the national trainers’ log and should extend his lead when Without Limits runs in Race 2, a FM Maiden Plate over 1300m.
The penny dropped a touch too late for this daughter of Querari in her last start when beaten a diminishing 0.55 lengths into third by Josie over the minimum trip, failing to justify 18-10 favouritism.
In her defence that was her Port Elizabeth debut and should spark tons of improvement. Without Limits is also weighted to win, so all those who remain faithful can banker her with confidence in their BiPots.
She will also be aided by an advantageous No 2 draw.
The jockey-trainer combination of Hewitson and Bremner team up with another worthy BiPot banker, Coal in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1100m.
This Seventh Rock gelding has been running very close to the winners of late and has a record that boasts two thirds and a fourth. He was only beaten 0.35 lengths by Albrandino last time out and should go even closer today.
Stable companion Rebel Wilson (Ryan Munger) is the obvious danger, and although shouldering 2.5kg less than Coal, jockey arrangements suggest she is not the stable elect.
It’s advised you take Swingers and Exactas featuring the pair.
