Ex-MP Bikitsha was a top entreprene­ur

FORMER member of parliament Pule Isaac Bikitsha, 79, died last week Thursday at his place of business at De Deur in the Vaal.

He collapsed at home two months ago and was rushed to hospital where he stayed for two months before his death on the morning of June 18 surrounded by his wife and family.

Bikitsha served as an MP during Nelson Mandela ’ s term as president.

Bikitsha was a serial entreprene­ur. He owned businesses and led the local economic developmen­t campaign, which looked after the interests of entreprene­urs in areas including Meyerton and Walkervill­e.

Bikitsha was also a member of Hollard Foundation ’ s Midvaal steering committee and also served as executive member of the Midvaal Chamber of Commerce and was also a former general secretary of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry ’ s (Nafcoc) Southern Transvaal region. His other leadership role in local business was that of chairman of the Black Management Forum in the Vaal Triangle.

A true inspiratio­n, Bikitsha was a pillar in the Vaal community. Having served in various roles on the local municipali­ty he spearheade­d much community developmen­t in the area and was a force behind the stimulatio­n of black businesses.

He was an avid advocate of local tourism and preserving historic and cultural sites in the Vaal.

In the community, he played a role in the funding of initiative­s for the poor without advertisin­g his campaigns for publicity.

He had a a good relationsh­ip with big soccer clubs where he would host the clubs ’ players and bosses after big matches throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Beloved by all who had the privilege to know him, Bikitsha will be remembered for his humility, sense of humour and impeccable taste.

He is survived by his wife Rita and children. His funeral service will be held tomorrow 8am to noon at the Vereenigin­g Civic Theatre and he will be cremated after the service as per his wish.
