Attempt made to kill Krejcir

- Sapa

SOMEONE tried to kill Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir by setting off explosive devices near his car, he said yesterday.

“I managed to get away and saved my life. Someone out there tried to kill me,” Krejcir said.

This allegedly happened earlier yesterday in the parking lot of his offices opposite the Eastgate shopping centre in Bedfordview.

Krejcir said he heard loud noises like bullets being fired from a car he had parked next to, and which was probably set off by remote control as there was no one in that car.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said an attempted murder docket had been opened.

“It is alleged that he [Krejcir] arrived at the premises and parked his vehicle.

“As he was leaving the parking, an explosive device was detonated from the back of the vehicle, a VW Polo, parked opposite his vehicle,” Dlamini said.

“Projectiles hit the vehicle on the driver’s side, the driver ’ s window and back window, leaving several holes.”

He said the VW Polo was stolen in April in Brixton.

This comes days after a Cyprus court ruled that George Louca would be extradited to South Africa in connection with the murder of Teazers strip club boss Lolly Jackson.

Louca had fled to Cyprus following Jackson’s murder in 2010. –
