It’s not always about coaching

- Goodman Mazibuko – Former Pirates midfielder

“Up to now, I’d say that the coaches have done enough to hold onto the job, but I must admit that there is still room for improvement from the team. It can be difficult sometimes if the team is not doing so well, but it does not mean you are a bad coach. A coach’s job can be very difficult and awkward at times, but the most important thing is to try and understand the players. It has not been easy at Pirates, but I feel that they’ve done enough up to now. I think what they need is for things to turn around for them and then they would need to be more consistent. Luckily enough, I was in class with coach Fadlu when we were doing our CAF B Licence and I can tell you that he is a very good coach. I know he knows a lot about preparation and you could see from then that he has potential. That’s why I believe that they should be given time because they can turn things around for the team. I’ve played for the big teams and I know that the supporters are not patient because they want results now. I understand this, but the coaches deserve some time because they can build something for the team. These things don’t happen overnight. While I say that they deserve more time, I must admit that they still need to improve. Sometimes changing a coach does not work and sometimes it works, because sometimes a coach has to come in and still understand the players. It’s different when you look at the team from outside and it might seem easy, but it’s not the case. So, there are a lot of things you need to consider because it’s not always about coaching sometimes.”
