Sensual chic vibes
LOBSTERS, pineapples, sailboats and straitjackets… designer Thom Browne took his audience to a fantasy beach club that was all preppy gone mad at Paris Fashion Week on Sunday.
The showing featured Cabana boys in seersucker skirts and fringed beards. Female lifeguards in knit bikinis and bodysuits kept vigil over a sandy landscape dotted by a pastelcoloured palm tree and criss-crossed by a red, white and blue boardwalk.
The spring 2019 collection was a display of Browne’s love of craftsmanship, fully loosed and leaving the mind agog.
Chanel, too, took the show to the beach, in a set to rival all others.
Meanwhile Hedi Slimane has obliterated Celine – at least the version of the brand most people have come to know, the one focused on hyper-discreet minimalism.
For his debut at the house, the new creative director replaced its award-winning aesthetic with the Hedi Slimane signature style, driven by youth culture, indie rock and sulking adolescence.
At Chloe, Natacha Ramsay-levi’s collection was focused on a woman’s casual hours. She gave women scarf prints, cropped knits and Grecian sandals. The women, who are described as “effortlessly chic”, often have a feature that defies the conventional wisdom about how beauty is defined – their nose is too pronounced, their waist is thick… Somehow they are unforgettable.
That could be said for much of Paris Fashion Week, which wowed on more than one front. | The Washington Post
