Bling on your big day
JEWELLERY choices for the modern-day bride have evolved over the years.
Polki or uncut diamonds are the most popular for the “phera” (sacred vows) because of the antiquity and royalty they offer, say experts.
Rohan Sharma, the director of RK Jewellers-South Extension-2, and Shehzad Zaveri, the creative director of Minawala, have listed tips to help choose the right polki jewellery (a traditional form of Indian gemstone jewellery involving a gem set with a gold foil between the stones that are mounted, usually for elaborate necklaces) for different bridal looks:
● It’s is all about a bride opting for lighter ensembles where she is free to dance. A polki choker with small earrings and maang tika (hair adornment, placed on the bride’s hairline with a drop pendant that gracefully sits on her forehead).
● The colour of your lehenga and your chosen bridal jewellery should be in sync. Navratan polki necklace has multicoloured stonework that go with pastel pink, white and golden trousseau.
● A heavy choker or long Raani haars (a heavy necklace) in polki are the perfect styles for a traditional look. A polki necklace studded with south sea pearls, emeralds and rubies are a great choice to complement the lehenga. A bride can pair them with jhumkas, head cover maang tika and nath to complete the look.
● An uncut polki with a pearl or kundanwork necklace is the right mix for getting a regal look. If you want to steer away from the traditional look, opt for a detachable multi-layered polki necklace that can be worn on lehenga shades like pastel pink, green, gold and blue. You can pair it with over-sized studs or with heavy chandbalis in polka and pearls.
