‘It’s a senseless killing’

- CHARLENE SOMDUTH

A CHATSWORTH couple are seeking answers after their son was shot dead on Friday night in Demat.

Sugendran Shane Naidoo, 29, of Savannah Park, died on the way to the RK Khan Hospital. A single gunshot had struck him in the torso.

His father, Ravi, who owns taxis, said they had many unanswered questions. “It could not have been a robbery or a hijacking because the car, his cellphone, and wallet were not taken. This was a senseless killing.”

Naidoo’s mother, Rani, added that they needed to know what had happened to her only child.

Ravi said they had last seen their son at about 7.30pm. “He had supper and left in his mother’s Kia Picanto to meet his friends. Hours later I received a call from his friend that Shane was shot and was unresponsive.”

Ravi said he learnt that his son had parked outside a tuckshop and had been waiting for a friend to return from buying something.

“While in the car, Shane was shot and the attacker, or attackers, fled.”

He said his son tried to drive off, but the car had crashed, the engine still running.

“Another friend helped Shane and he was the one who called me. When I arrived at the hospital, I was told Shane had died.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said murder was being investigated.
