Young Stehan responds well to treatment, fundraiser starts
Thanks to his positive response to cancer treatment, the start date for one of young Stehan Knuppe's fundraisers was moved to 8 June as opposed to the initial date of 24 July.
Stehan (6) was diagnosed with and beat cancer (neuroblastoma) in 2022, when he was only four years old. He was diagnosed with a different cancer (acute myeloid leukaemia) in April this year and has been fighting the disease since.
With his condition comes the cost of numerous medical procedures and treatments, which is where one of his fundraisers, #6KforStehan, comes in.
The initiative, run by Cupcakes of Hope, involves anyone willing to participate. The aim is to get 6 000 people to complete 6km of an activity, whether it be running, hiking, walking or anything else, paired with a donation of R100. For those who are less active, donations without an activity are also welcome.
Stehan's parents said he is just over a month into his treatments, "and our little fighter is still going strong. He may have lost his beautiful blonde hair, but his witty sense of humour and contagious smile remain."
He is responding well to treatment, and the extensive medication and bone marrow
transplant may happen sooner than expected. Inspired by his progress, Cupcakes of Hope and its ambassador, Ronél Steyn, decided to dust off their running shoes and start the #6KforStehan campaign earlier than planned.
