Words from the people of Knysna
CAROLINE AVELEY – Travel agent "Knysna's bypass debate has been raging for many years with no resolution in sight, and with the seemingly endless parade of corrupt officials playing musical chairs at the municipality I don't think we should hold our breath that anything constructive will ever be done about the traffic situation on Main Road."
WOUTER VAN ZYL – Bargain shop owner. “Although I believe the industrial vehicles do contribute to the town’s economy to certain extent, re-routing traffic into Waterfront Drive will be a good thing. I come from Welkom so maybe large traffic circles might work well at the two N2 intersections.”
LOUIS DE SWART – Architect “I was very upset to hear about the tragic accident in Main Road. It could have been so easily avoided. All that needs to be done is to make the turnings into Waterfront Drive more accessible for larger vehicles. I even handed in plans to the municipality to show them how to do it, but to no avail.”
LARA DU PLESSIS – Scholar
"I feel unsafe on that road and I am very sorry that someone had to die because of the heavy traffic. They must do something about it before there is another tragedy."
MARILYN ALIE – Concordia resident
"The Sanral land set aside for the bypass was handed to the homeless people of Knysna in 2016 by then minister of transport Dipuo Peters. No-one living in wards 4, 7 and 8 wants or needs a traffic bypass, they want and need houses."
MICHELE DE KOK – Costa Sarda resident "News of Jackie's tragic passing reached us through our community WhatsApp group. My sincere condolences to her heartbroken family. I worked for a short while at the Gold Trader on the corner of Main Rd and Gray streets. From there I had a bird's eye view of how trucks come speeding through that intersection and of how some pedestrians sometimes ignore the traffic lights – especially during peak times like the holiday season."
