Moonlight Market raises funds for day care centre

-

The Candlelight Market took place on the evening of Saturday 3 December.

This was the culmination of many weeks of work by a small group of children from Kingswood, DSG, Graeme and Oatlands − Sarah O’Keeffe, Jessie Gleaves, Dominique Erasmus, Max Western Patel, Lila and Ruby Graven-Dugmore and Alex Oosthuizen.

They have been busy making candle holders, plant pots and sweetie jars out of recycled tins and jars which they sold at the market together with hot dogs donated by Pick n Pay.

They raised almost R1 500 on the night and there is more coming in. The money is being raised to give children at the Ekhaya Day Care Centre a Christmas party and the children are also donating some of their toys to their centre.

The children would really thank all those people who contributed in so many ways. The individuals who donated jars, tins and candles and Pick n Pay for the hot dogs.

Thanks to those who gave their time to help decorate the jars, Derek Braans, the Dowdles and others who came to support us on the night.

We really appreciate all of you who supported the children’s efforts to make this project a success.

The children will be using the money this week, to organise Christmas party bags for each of the 44 children at Ekhaya and will be donating many of their things for the school which currently has no resources.

Thank you all and watch out for the Easter Candlelight Market next year!
