Take a hike and enjoy the pineapples

This Sunday, don’t miss the annual St Cyprian’s Highlands Country Fair.

The Patronal Festival Eucharist in St Cyprian’s Church, Highlands, at 10am, kicks off the event.

At the fair, expect fresh produce, delicious teas and potije lunches, pony rides and children’s entertainm­ent.

The start of the auction at the St Cyprian’s fair is traditiona­lly signalled by the ringing of the old church bell – and in past years, bidders have picked up bargains on all manner of items ranging from weekends away to Nguni-skin rugs and cases of wine.

For a more active morning, you can join the Oldenburgi­a Hiking Club.

The Oldenburgi­a Hiking Club's annual charity hike will take place on Sunday.

Hikers are asked to meet at Pepper Grove mall in the car park at 8am. The hike starts from 8.30am.

The hike will take in St Cyprian’s Church and Highlands Farm, taking in some expansive views, fynbos, and a historical railway station and bridge.

The walk, including stops, should take about three hours, requires a basic level of fitness and is suitable for all ages as it is a leisurely 6.5kms.

Wear good hiking shoes/ boots, hat and sunscreen and take water and refreshmen­ts for morning tea.

Lunch will be available at the Highlands Country Fair so take cash if you want to or a picnic basket.

Cost: R30 per person (minimum donation), plus R10 for fuel, payable on the day.

Hikers are asked to consider offering to take their vehicle and to ensure that it is safe and has sufficient fuel for the trip (40km total). Proceeds will go to the Mary Waters High School Interact Club to support their project to remove alien vegetation.
