SAICA looks at student leadership

- MATTHEW FIELD

Entries are now open for the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (SAICA) 2020 Student Leadership Summit (SLS) Competition.

The competition is open to all students who are studying towards a BCom CA-Stream qualification at a SAICAaccredited institution.

For this year’s competition, students will be challenged to put together a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that illustrates how they plan to empower and improve the country through a community-based project.

Each project must be aimed at addressing one of the 17 SDGs adopted by the United Nations (UN) as part of their 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“As SAICA, we run SLS as an action-based competition focusing specifically on the SDGs to ensure students are aligned with the profession’s — and indeed businesses ’— commitment to sustainability, as well as making a difference in the world,” said SAICA’s university projects director Teboho Moephudi.

To enter, visit http://www.sls.saicaevents.co. za/wp/ and complete the entry form. You will then need to submit your community project’s business plan using the template available from the website.

A team can consist of one person or more, up to five members.

Entries close October 4. The tope five teams will then compete for first prize in November at a virtual prizegiving summit, where they willl be awarded prizes which include leadership coaching, business mentoring and money for their project.
