Authorities seem incapable of maintaining roads

- | FAIZA | PASEKA

Why would an unscrupulous person or arsonist wilfully set fire to the City’s scenic mountainside? After the Cape’s record number of visitors who were attracted by its beautiful mountain and beaches, the Western Cape suffered 22 fires between January 1 and 18. The City of Cape Town has gathered enough evidence to believe that it’s the work of arsonists. We should strive to “keep the Cape in shape”, and we have a duty to report such arsonists. Is there a conspiracy to render the Western Cape Province ungovernable as we prepare for the national and provincial elections? I MARK RH KLEINSCHMIDT

If conscious-driven people stood together and supported South Africa’s request to bring an end to

Israel’s brutal military campaign in Gaza, we could stop Israel’s attempt to discredit the case. The Palestinian freedom liberation struggle is a moral cause and needs the support of the people. I MOHAMED SAEED

This water crisis in Verulam and surrounding areas is an ongoing thing and every time our water supply is cut, we are fed the same lies. I don’t understand how there can always be leaks on the main trunk if it had been fixed properly the first time. The issues would not happen if proper maintenance was done. Besides this, we are not supplied with tankers. We are being denied our basic human rights. Our ward councillor does nothing for his ward. When we call him to inform him of our issues or request him to organise a tanker for his ward, he rudely drops the call on us. What is he getting paid for?

The alternative route, P58/P59, from Izingolweni to Harding is also terrible and dangerous for light motor vehicles due to the potholes. l used it this past Friday morning. When going towards Harding in other areas, there is no road. Heavy motor vehicles going to the Eastern Cape have been asked to use the R56 on the umzimkhulu route and via Bizana as well on the R61. The problem with the Bizana route is that it is terrible and heavy motor vehicles are going to make it worse. It’s the same as the P58/P59 route and it’s just going to get worse. The provincial or local authorities seem as if they cannot maintain the roads within their jurisdiction.
