New Mauritian challenge for Bean

IF HE was in Durban, Andy Bean would have been preparing to defend his PGA KwaZuluNatal regional Championship title at Umhlali Country Club next week and he would be putting the final touches to the championship which has been looking after for many years.
Unfortunately his new challenge in life lies in the heart of the Indian Ocean Island, where some of South Africa’s leading PGA professionals are now being employed.
Like a few others from these shores Bean is now in Mauritius where he is the general manager of the latest Peter Matkovich “masterpiece” the Mont Choisy Le Golf in Grand Baie in the North. It is on the Avalon Golf Estate.
He says even if he was in KwaZulu-Natal at this moment he doubts that he would put fear into his fellow professionals while defending his PGA Regional Championship crown.
Last year Bean struggled with his game ahead of the KwaZulu-Natal PGA Regional Championship and after winning the title, he credited Steve Cottingham, who is a PGA professional and who runs the Mt Edgecombe Driving Range and Academy, for putting his game into ship-shape soon after he was presented with the trophy at Mt Edgecombe Country Club.
