Celebrating new-world geometrics and form
Boasting ample living space, this grand contemporary family home is situated within a secured golf and wildlife estate on the outskirts of Pretoria.
“Retaining the investment value of the property, the plot is situated in a secure estate within a nature reserve. Orientation of the site was north-facing with a west entry, ensuring full maximisation of the northern and southern façade,” says the owner.
This multilevel house has been designed with privacy in mind. Using a half-horseshoe shape, the architecture allows all the living and entertainment spaces to directly relate to a large courtyard. The use of steel, aluminium fenestrations, glass and cladding make the design cutting-edge and striking in its appeal.
Commenting on the inspiration behind the architectural design choice, the owner says it has “simplicity in geometric shapes and form with tremendous ingress of natural light throughout”, which makes this home a delight to the senses.
For the interiors, the owners knew what they wanted. The owner says: “The need was to accentuate the natural light within the house with white bulkhead ceilings and a softer touch of wooden panelling on both walls and floors adjacent to marble walls and granite finishes to create a sense of an executive look, yet in a residential space. This was complemented with natural colours and texture for the furniture and décor.”
The owners are besotted with the outcome of their home and have many elements that they love. However the patterned Monet marble used in accent spaces is a favourite as it gives a sense of a full-size wall mural and stands out as a prominent feature. The couple also adore their dining space, saying: “The dining combination of wooden floors, the gold-plated screen on the ceiling and the walls, marble walls and large 16-seater marble table with imposing light all provide an opulent aesthetic and ambience.”
This home is certainly not short on style and offers its family a beautiful space to live in and enjoy.
