Five things to watch this weekend

- TYMON SMITH

Snowpiercer Netflix (new — episodes weekly)

Fresh off the Oscar success of Parasite, director Bong Joon-ho brings this series version of his 2013 graphic novel adaptation to Netflix. Starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs, it’s the wildly action filled and dystopian story of a train that endlessly circuits the globe after a mass extinction by global warming.

Inhuman Resources Netflix —

Former Manchester United legend Eric Cantona exercises his acting chops in this highthrills, intrigue-filled drama about an unusual human resources exercise conducted in France.

Cantona plays Alain Delambre, a retrenched HR consultant in his mid 50s who has spent six years struggling from menial job to menial job to make ends meet before he lands what seems to be the job of a lifetime. Watch as the increasingly twisty plot sees Cantona unleash his angry side and kick more than just the ass of a mouthy soccer fan.

History 101 Netflix —

This 10-episode, somewhat too excitingly narrated series offers informative potted histories of everything from fast food to the space race, oil and the rise of China. In an age when so many seem to be horribly unaware of the realities and histories of the world around them, it’s a good starting point for some solid facts and reminders of how we got to where we find ourselves today.

Women of Troy Showmax —

If you’ve been reliving the 90s glory of the Chicago Bulls in Netflix’s Last Dance docuseries, then this is the perfect accompaniment. Alison Ellwood’s documentary traces the legacy and accomplishments of the 1980s trailblazing USC Trojans women’s basketball team and the athletes and believers who made it possible for them to lay the groundwork for the growth of woman’s basketball.

Good Boys Showmax —

A strictly for adults madcap adventure through the lives of a group of teenage boys caught up in a hilarious and crazy web when one of them discovers a backpack full of drugs. It’s wholeheartedly aimed at older boys but there are plenty of good jokes and very funny situations to keep you entertained.
