Player of the season Manyama signs for Turkish club

- By MARC STRYDOM

THE Premier Soccer League’s player of the season in 2016-17 has signed for Konyaspor in Turkey‚ Cape Town City have confirmed.

In the bombshell announcement of the transfer window deadline yesterday – so far – Mamelodi Sundowns target Manyama has signed for an undisclosed length of contract to last season’s ninth-placed Turkish Super Lig finishers.

“CTCFC can confirm the transfer of Lebogang Manyama to Turkish Super League side Konyaspor FC!” City posted on their official Twitter page yesterday afternoon.

Manyama’s sale to Konyaspor will also yield some financial reward for SuperSport United.

SuperSport sold Manyama to Mpumalanga Black Aces – whose franchise was sold to John Comitis at the end of 2015-16‚ who formed Cape Town City – with an onward sale agreement.

Manyama is part of the Bafana Bafana squad meeting Cape Verde in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Praia tonight‚ and in Durban on Tuesday.

● Unconfirmed information at the Premier Soccer League’s offices in Parktown on transfer window deadline last night was that Phakamani Mahlambi will be loaned from Bidvest Wits to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Also unconfirmed was that Mario Booysen will be loaned from Sundowns to Ajax Cape Town.

Downs are also believed to have put in a bid for Ajax’s injured centreback Rivaldo Coetzee‚ whose transfer to Glasgow Celtic last week fell through after examination.

Mahlambi had trials with Bongani Zungu’s club this month‚ Vitoria Guimaeres. The Portuguese Primeira team said they liked what they saw but did not believe Wits’ 19-yearold striker could make their first team at present.

Centreback Booysen was brought back he failed a medical from last season’s loan to SuperSport United this past season‚ but is not believed to be in Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane’s plans.

The PSL’s transfer window closed last night.— Additional reporting by Marc Strydom and Mahlatse Mphahlele
