Auditors verifying BCM ANC branches

- By ZINE GEORGE

ANC national auditors arrived in Buffalo City Metro yesterday to verify the status of ANC branches in the region in preparation for the provincial elective conference to be held in July.

The auditors have already covered areas such as Alfred Nzo, which is due for an elective conference in May, as well as Joe Gqabi, O R Tambo and Sarah Baartman.

Outstanding ANC regions after BCM are Amathole and Nelson Mandela Metro.

ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said the auditors are expected to be in BCM until tomorrow, “depending on the challenges they encounter in the region”.

He said party records showed that 35 of the 49 branches in BCM had received clearance for being in good shape, while 15 still had to convene branch annual general meetings and branch general meetings.

“We have asked the regional executive committee [REC] to chip in there and speed up this process because the actual day of the provincial conference will depend on whether the pre-conference processes are followed properly,” he added.

The provincial executive committee (PEC) set aside July as the best time to elect a new provincial executive.

Mabuyane said it would be easy to deal with Nelson Mandela Metro and Amathole, as they had already audited their members. These regions had a September 2016 cut-off date.

The provincial executive had set down February as the official cut off date for membership to be audited.

Mabuyane said as Amathole and Nelson Mandela both held elective conferences a month ago, the auditors would use existing data to start with.

Alfred Nzo’s elective regional conference is set for next month. This follows a decision by the PEC to move forward their elective conference to re-align with other regions.

Mabuyane said only 10 branches from the region, which covers KwaBhaca (Mount Frere), eMaXesibeni (Mt Ayliff), Matatiele and Bizana were still being finalised after members reported that their forms were missing even though some had supporting documents to confirm they are party members in good standing.
