Who’s the ugliest of them all?

A RETIRED high court judge who is leading an expert panel on public order policing is looking for the country’s ugliest man.

The Mr Ugly pageant will be held in Mtubatuba, north of KwaZuluNat­al at the Bit by Bit night club owned by former high court judge David Ntshangase on September 3.

The first-of-its-kind pageant in South Africa seeks to give people discrimina­ted against because of their looks, a chance to compete for a R1 000 prize. A runner-up walk away with R500.

“Ugly and fat people are among the most discrimina­ted people in the world. You always find skinny and beautiful people competing and no one gives ugly people a change to showcase themselves.

“You have a very beautiful fat woman who simply gets disqualifi­ed because she is fat. Such people do not have a forum and they will forever be spectators,” said Ntshangase when asked why he was hosting the pageant. will

Ntshangase said he has received four applicants for the pageant so far.

“So the reaction has been good because we only announced the competitio­n at the weekend.”

The panel of judges will include veteran television actor Joe Mafela (also known as Sdumo).

Ntshangase hosted the Queen contest last year.

A similar contest is held annually in Zimbabwe and the current title holder Mison Sero walked away with $500 (R6 797) last November. S’dudla
