Comedy of ‘7 Deadly Sins’ set to rock EL

-

COMEDY duo Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert are back in East London this week to perform their latest show, 7 Deadly Sins.

In this performance, the Durban couple give their perception on why those New Year’s resolutions we all make to banish bad habits and pull ourselves together, seldom outlast the fizz, crackle and pop of party time.

The show will run from tomorrow to Sunday at the Alexander Playhouse in Cambridge where audiences will be treated to a plethora of clues underlying the failure to stick to the straight and narrow path of virtue.

Presented by MacBob Productions, the husband-and-wife duo’s take on the seven deadly sins is a showcase of weird and wonderful escapades, billed as “a wicked new comedy”.

McIlroy and Bobbert probe the reasons that underpin the staying power of lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday Bobbert said this was one of their best shows ever.

“We will rock East Londoners with this awesome comedy.”

In a kaleidoscope of side-splitting scenarios set to have audiences clutching their abs and hanging onto their seats, theatregoers will gain invaluable insights into the lures of these said bastions of vice and abandonment.

Adding value to the entertainment package is a line-up of satirical visual production elements, as well as a selection of musical items, including renderings of songs such as Mariah Carey’s Hero and Pit Bull’s Timber.

Directed by the award-winning Steven Stead and co-written by Susan Monteregge, McIlroy who is well known for his role of Mr Milton in the Spud movies, won a Best Actor in a Comedy, Durban Theatre award for his performance in 7 Deadly Sins last year.

“We love performing in East London; the atmosphere is great and it has a lovely ambience,” Bobbert said.

She said they would be taking the show to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
