Fans hoping Brand’s visa now in order

-

AS HE doesn’t have kids‚ South Africa’s muchcriticised new visa regulations shouldn’t affect him. And‚ should Russell Brand have learned his lesson from 2013‚ and made sure his passport is in order‚ the comedian‚ actor and author will be here for three shows in October.

Two performances of his Trew World Order show will take place in Johannesburg on October 1 and 2 at Montecasino‚ followed by a Grand Arena appearance in Cape Town the following night. “We are pleased to announce that Russell Brand will be in South Africa this October for what is going to be an exciting and interesting tour,” said Tony Feldman of Showtime Management.

Brand explained the tour thus: “Yes‚ That’s right. We are all individuals.

“We’ve been told freedom is the freedom to fulfil our petty desires but trew freedom is freedom from our petty desires.”

In a Showtime statement, Brand said “the only way to change the world is to be a part of the crowd. Collectively‚ as a crowd‚ a horde‚ a mob we can change the world”.

He was described by The Telegraph as “the most talented stand-up comedian to emerge in Britain so far this decade”.

That UK newspaper also reported in 2013 that South African “fans were not laughing as controversial comedian has to cancel his first gig in Johannesburg”.

Brand had been scheduled to do a stand-up gig as part of his Messiah Complex tour‚ but was denied permission to board a flight because he did not have two free pages in his passport – the minimum needed to enter South Africa.
