Too good for words

- ANDREW HARRISON

THERE was a lot to report home about by assistant Dijon Steyn after the Sean Tarrytrained filly In Other Words turned in another cracking performance on the Greyville poly track yesterday.

Tracking chief rival Miss Varlicious in the early exchanges, Anthony Delpech switched his mount inside for a run up the rail and the daughter of Trippi quickened smartly.

“She’s a bit above average,” said Delpech after the filly had recorded her fourth straight victory on the poly track. “They have a good filly on their hands. The kid came across me and I had to check and come off his heels and switch in but she came again.”

She did and never looked in danger of not catching Miss Varlicious who battled on well to hold second.

“I didn’t think we had done quite enough with her,” said Steyn of owner Chris van Niekerk’s filly, “but I was still confident of a good race.

The second horse can run a bit. We took it easy after her last win. Vaccines and everything like everyone else.”

Steyn indicated that the Flamboyant Stakes would be the next target.

In Other Words

The Flamboyant will be run on the turf but the switch should not make much of an impact as In Other Words simply floated past her rivals.

Gold Circle CEO Michel Nairac presented Muzi Yeni with a memento for riding his 1000th winner at Flamingo Park on Monday and he rounded off the meeting on good fashion as Ten Gun Salute came home under hands and heels for Duncan Howells and although the Australian import did not beat much home, he did it with ease.

“He had a few issues early in his career but we seem to have got on top of them and he has settled down.

“He’s progressive and I think he can go on from here,” said Howells of the smart looking son of Henrythenavigator.
