Tourists lap it up in Robertson
THE town of Robertson is rapidly becoming one of the country’s biggest tourist destinations and its wine is attracting many of them.
Robertson wine is handcrafted and created by well-known wine makers, so if you consider yourself a wine fanatic or a lover of the luxury country life you might want to do a mini-tour yourself.
On a recent media tour journalists were invited to experience the country life and get inside the minds of some of the country’s most well-known winemakers.
These winemakers have garnered a strong reputation in the wine industry for producing exclusive products sold only in restaurants or wine boutiques. And each story is unique. Among those exclusive wines is Monte Blois, which is produced by Nina and Ernest Bruwer.
The wine they produce is a mixture of various spices, candy and strawberries. The Monte Blois variety ranges from their sweet Muscadel (which pairs perfectly with a warm dessert) to their 2016 editions of Kneekkamp chardonnay and Groot Steen chardonnay.
“This has become my passion and something I really want to do. My husband does the farming, I do the chardonnay,” said Bruwer.
An exclusive méthode cap classique (MCC) that will get your taste buds dancing is Paul René, created by Henk van Niekerk.
Now winemakers are gearing up for the Wacky Wine Weekend expected to take place on May 31.
Accommodation in Robertson should be the least of your worries as Zandvliet Wine Estate, the “home of Shiraz”, has guest houses on the property that offer amazing modern rooms situated deep in the Valley. They are not listed online, but you can enquire directly at the estate.
