Going from pillar to post over parcel

ON AUGUST 1, I sent via the Post Office EMS service a parcel to my daughter in Nairobi, Kenya, paying R430 for the service. I was assured that the parcel would reach her within three to five working days.

However, on seeing on the internet that the parcel had reached Kenya on August 15, I asked my daughter to collect it from the EMS office in Nairobi. She tried to do so on the 16th, but was informed that a mail bag had arrived in the country on the 12th, but the bag was received “violated” and my daughter’s iPad tablet and keypad were missing.

Two other parcels in the same mail bag were missing, too. In place a brick had been substitute­d for the missing items to make up the weight.The parcel was violated at the OR Tambo SAPO’s offices, one of the three items that did not make it to Kenya in that posting bag.

The post office has taken me from pillar to post since then. Most recently, last Friday, asking me to restart the recovery processes afresh from my local Post Office in Sunninghil­l. No two post office officials have responded in the same way to me on the subject. Please intervene with SAPO and help me recover the R12 000 costs involved in the matter.

Seven months is rather too long to settle such a small claim especially when or where fault in the non-delivery of the goods is so clear.
